STAR Credit Union opened its doors to members of the

Boys & Girls Club of Dane County in June, 2005.

STAR is the ONLY youth chartered credit union in the world.   

Our Mission

It is STAR's mission to help instill financial literacy and responsibility among members of the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County, Inc., by providing access to financial services and the opportunity to participate in the development and operation of the credit union.

• Past or current member of the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County
• Staff members of the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County
• Staff members of  Summit Credit Unions, founders of STAR Credit Union

The Credit Union Difference

STAR Credit Union, like all credit unions, is a not-for-profit financial institution which is a member-owned cooperative.  One way we serve our members is to offer a savings account with a 5% annual percentage yield.  This high interest rate helps teach members the concept of compounding interest and helps them build wealth more quickly. 

Serving Our Community

STAR Credit Union is located in a low to moderate income neighborhood in Madison, Wisconsin.  This neighborhood provides limited financial options.  Many club members see their parents utilize payday lenders/check cashers.  STAR helps to teach kids an alternative to payday lending, while creating a positive, trusting relationship between youth and their financial institution.
